Posh café, steam rooms, and ruins with fairy lights - Part I

We touched down in Budapest without a problem and jumped into a cab that took us to the hotel in Central Budapest. My mother loves to tell me the story about her being kicked out of a cab when we hired one eons ago. Since that experience, she despised taxis with a vengeance, thus I always find it difficult to convince her to get in one. The airport taxis are especially evil in her world, so it was a pleasant surprise to see what a well-oiled system the airport cab service in Budapest was. The prices were communicated, the taxi meter was running and the driver was a delight and appreciated James’s adorable Hungarian pronunciation. Genuinely, he made such an effort to learn and speak some common phrases that I was blown away. Him saying ‘hahó’ or ‘bocsi, angol vagyok, nem beszélek magyarul’ put a big smile on my face every time.

The hotel was situated perfectly and seemingly in the middle of the gay area or suspiciously close to at least 2 gay venues as we learned later. The reception team was welcoming and Roland was particularly pleasing to the eye. We booked the ‘Charming” room and dropped a hint that were on our honeymoon - every day is a honeymoon with this sexy man! After settling in and resting up, we headed to the Central Market Hall where I introduced James to one of the Hungarian delicacies, the Lángos, and showed him other typical Hungarian produce that only tourists buy at this place. Then we had our first proper meal in Budapest; Hugo’s Mexican restaurant. After consuming a substantial amount of nachos, cheese, and frozen margaritas, we changed scenery to a gay location, Why Not Bar, which was quite empty. We had a nightcap and welcomed the well-deserved slumber before the adventures of day two.
