Budapest is known for its famous 'ruin bars', which have become a popular attraction in the city. However, in the grand scheme of the city's history, these bars are relatively new. Despite this, they have seen a significant rise in popularity over the last 15 years and are now as equally popular as Budapest's more traditional tourist attractions, such as the Hungarian Parliament Building and Buda Castle.

Gellért’s Bath is a famous spa and hotel perched on the east bank of the Danube, in the centre of Budapest since 1928 and it is one of the most beautiful ones. I had lived in Budapest for 31 years before moving to the UK and I had never been to this bath before.

The building itself was commissioned by the Hungarian Department of the New York Insurance Company. The luxurious ground floor café was the favourite meeting place of artists, writers and poets of the time.

After settling in and resting up, we headed to the Central Market Hall where I introduced James to one of the Hungarian delicacies, the Lángos, and showed him other typical Hungarian produce that only tourists buy at this place.
